A classic Irish Coffee cocktail combining smooth Jameson Irish Whiskey with strong black coffee, lightly sweetened and topped with softly whipped cream for a comforting, spirited drink ideal for any occasion.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey or other Irish whiskey
  • 4-6 oz strong black coffee, freshly brewed and hot
  • 1-2 tsp brown sugar, maple syrup, or demerara sugar
  • 1-2 oz heavy whipping cream, lightly whipped

Optional Ingredients

  • Simple syrup, as needed
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Coffee: Brew a strong cup of black coffee that is freshly made and served hot.
  2. Warm the Mug: Transfer the hot coffee into a pre-warmed mug, leaving some space at the top for cream.
  3. Add Sweetener: Stir in brown sugar, maple syrup, or demerara sugar until fully dissolved to your preferred sweetness.
  4. Add Whiskey: Pour in the Jameson Irish Whiskey and stir gently to combine flavors.
  5. Whip Cream: Lightly whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, giving it a smooth and airy texture.
  6. Float the Cream: Carefully pour the whipped cream over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of the coffee without mixing in.
  7. Garnish: Optionally, sprinkle freshly grated nutmeg or chocolate shavings over the cream for added aroma and flavor.

Notes

  • Use freshly brewed, hot coffee for the best flavor and to help dissolve the sugar effectively.
  • Lightly whipped cream should be soft, not stiff, to achieve the classic floating effect.
  • Warming the mug beforehand helps maintain the temperature of the drink longer.
  • Adjust sweetness according to taste using brown sugar, maple syrup, or simple syrup.
  • Garnishes like nutmeg or chocolate shavings enhance aroma and presentation but are optional.
